Hannah Jane Shepard’s Parents Didn’t Marry

Hannah Jane Shepard’s parents had a long-term relationship from the early 1980s through the late 2000s. However, it did not result in marriage. The couple began their turbulent romance in 1982, after meeting on the production of the film Frances.

Before that, she was married to Paco Grande, a photographer whom she met in 1967 and married in 1970. Their marriage lasted until the early 1980s, when they divorced, and their divorce was formalized in 1982. After splitting with Paco, Lange began a new relationship with choreographer Mikhail Baryshnikov.

Nonetheless, the romance lasted briefly before her on-screen love story with Sam became real life. Sam had previously been married to O-Lan Jones, whom he met through her Stepfather. They married in 1969 but divorced in 1985, so he had already been seeing Lange for three years.

Sam admitted to friends in a letter that it grieved him to have left his first wife and child for Lange, but he also revealed that he loved her in an unfathomable way. They were engaged at one point during their relationship, but by 2004, things had spiraled out of hand owing to Shepard’s drinking, poor habits, and angry temperament. Nonetheless, they stayed together for the sake of their children until 2009, when they divorced.

Hannah Jane Shepard was not her parents’ only child

As previously stated, Hannah Jane Shepard is not the only child born to Sam Shepard and Jessica Lange throughout their long marriage. Samuel Walker Shepard is her younger brother. Samuel, born on June 14, is also a highly prominent person who has become renowned as a Musial musician besides his parents’ celebrity.

Along with Jackson Lynch and Eli Smith, he is a member of the Down Hill Strugglers, an American musical band. Walker is the band’s guitarist, and they’ve published seven albums so far, including The Dust Busters (2009), Show Me The Way to Go Home (2014), and Lone Prairie (2017).

Hanna Shepard has siblings from her parents’ prior marriages as well. Shura Baryshnikov, an American choreographer, is her half-sister. Shura was the result of Lange’s unsuccessful marriage to Mikhail in 1981.

Jesse Mojo Shepard is her considerably older half-sibling. The famous dramatist was born in May 1970 to her father from his brief marriage to O-Lan Jones, making him 53 years old.

Hannah Jane Shepard’s father passed away in 2017

Hannah and her other family members mourned the death of their grandfather, Samuel Shepard Rogers III, on July 27, 2017, in Midway, Kentucky, United States. Sam died at 73 from Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), a degenerative neurological system illness.

Many people were surprised by his death since neither the famed actor and writer nor his family members had made it known that he was unwell. It was then found that he had been suffering from the disease for up to a year before it claimed his life.

Hannah stayed remarkably close to her father until his death. It was stated that he grew ill while working on his last novel, Spy Of The First Person, and could no longer handle the pen. He used a voice recorder at the time, which his sister or Hannah transcribed.

Hannah Jane Shepard works in academia

While many people anticipated Hannah Shepard to follow in the footsteps of her parents and siblings and pursue a career in the entertainment industry, she has chosen to pursue a career as an academic.

As a professor, she has worked as a researcher, instructor, researcher, and script reader, among other things. She has collaborated with various organizations, including the New York Public Library for the Performing Arts and the Museum of the City of New York. Hannah has also assisted The Public Theater and the Louie B. Nunn Center for Oral History.

Unsurprisingly, she has found a method to combine what she does and filmmaking. Hannah is known as an archive researcher and producer since she was raised in such an atmosphere. As a result, she has worked on projects with directors such as Nancy Buirski and Catherine Gund.

Shepard has received various accolades and recognitions in the past for his efforts. Her honors include the Loomie Prize from Fordham University’s History Department for her thesis “Vanished in Plain Sight: Scots-Irish Presbyterians in Wisconsin, 1830-1890” and a nominee for the FOCAL Jane Mercer Researcher of the year Award in 2019.
